Pattie Vold: 'market value' just means what the assets would sell for on an open market. For example, you might have a computer that you bought last year for $ 2,000. That does not necessarily mean that it would sell for that much today if you tried to sell it. (It probably would not sell for anywhere near that much, even if it still works perfectly. Perhaps you could get $ 1,000 for it, and that would be the 'market value' of the 1 year old computer.)
