How did the Industrial Revolution affect the environment?

Kristina Brockwell: I would assume that the Industrial revolution had little effect in the beginning, but gradually it would have a detrimental impact on the environment. In my opinion, during this time, modernization and urbanization were common, it was a stage of technological development. The exploitation of natural resources such as coal and iron ore was necessary to fuel steam engines for trains plus boats in America in the 1800's.By the early 1900's, a huge increase in global factories and commercial sectors saw rapid growth economically. The start of car production was a turning point in history, not only because it revolutionized transport but also because the building areas released carbon emissions, weakening the ozone layer. Petrol was required to run vehicles, further damaging the air. The creation of chemicals, planes and in particular, plastics was a massive contributor to environmental destruction. As you can see now, the Industrial revolution has changed o! ur lives for the better, but caused many problems along the way.
