Misty Vagle: We've very nearly eaten dandelions out of existence in our yard. We still get a few in the spring but not like there used to be. All varieties of plantain are also edible but don't taste nearly as good. Just teach your kids what plants are edible. Once they get a good taste of fried dandelion flowers they will vanish quickly.
Marya Fehn: In my yard, because I have had generations of kids,dogs,grand kids,grand dogs.I consider the weeds my grass. Grass IS expensive.Grass seed cost about $35.00 a bag.Even if you didn't till the soil, you would have to use a heavy steel rake to scratch the existing soil to over seed.Then if you did nothing else, you have to water once a day for a few weeks, for about 1/2 an hour.grass seed needs lots of water to germinate. In the spring to maintain it, you need to get out there early and do pre emerging weed seed killerthen crab grass&dandylion killerThen grub killer.FertilizerThat is all so your original investment of ! seed and water from the fall is not a waste.Just wait till the kids and the pets grow up before you worry about a lawn....Show more
Berry Gilmore: The first home I bought came up all kinds of yellow flowers in the spring. I asked my neighbor who thought that clover was a weed what to do. In the spring I put down Scotts weed and feed and voila it was better than I could have hopped for. You will be surprised how much grass you have there.If you tear it all up you will have to do the same thing because the grass seed contains a certain amount of weed seed also. It will be a challenge to keep it nice and the only way I really know how to do it is with a good fertilizer with weed stuff in the spring and bug stuff in the summer.
