Misty Vagle: If you compare the digestive system and other physical parameters of humans with carnivores, you will find the following differences:1. Humans have fingers with soft nails whereas carnivores have fingers/toes with sharp, strong nails.2. The teeth of animals can tear into raw flesh; human teeth are not meant for this. 3. We cannot digest raw meat whereas animals can.4. The small intestine of humans are as long as 25 to 28 ft. long whereas that of carnivores are only a few feet long. This means that the food we consume remains in our intestine for a very long time - as long as 10-12 hours whereas the animals defecate every few hours. Our intestine is not meant for eating meat and meat products although they may taste better than vegetables....Show more
Darrel Stele: It's not necessarily the food itself, but rather the fact that they cross-contaminate. For example, they'll touch the chicken and then the lettuce, tainting it and making it non-vegetarian. ! Should I expect this easily-preventable problem in all Subway stores or are they more careful and vegetarian-friendly in other locations?
Malcom Fenoff: Honey, these are people that barely understand that they need to wash their hands. They are clueless. Most low end restaurants are unable or unwilling to cater to vegetarians. As you move up the food chain, they get better. Even at Denny's, my son cooked veggie burgers in the microwave, rather than on the grill where meat had been cooking. And he used tongs. But then he has a brain!..Later, his upscale restaurants would create a dish for anyone who walked in the door and explained they were vegetarian, or vegan. If you live in an area where there are kosher places, they will keep veggies separate, being as they cannot mix certain food products, and salad is a safe standby. It is challenging, but it can be done. Good Luck....Show more

Everette Rovinsky: It's nothing to do with being picky, but rather being careful and making sure that what I eat actually is vegetarian. My opinions and lifestyle aren't going to change because of your opinions on what vegetarianism is.
Jesse Japak: You can ask them to change the gloves between meat and salad for you, but they don't for other customers, and I once found a few small pieces of meat in my sandwich, so I don't go there anymore. I suggest you avoid Subways anywhere.
Palmira Lochridge: It's a crappy fast food place. It is too be expected. I am not! saying it is ok by any stretch but I am saying it is a fact of our mur! derous anti vegan culture. I would ask the persyn making your sandwich too put on fresh gloves, though I would recommend avoiding eating Subway a whole lot. You can make a better fresher sandwich yourself and make sure no animal products have touched it and you can also know everything in it and make it the right size.
Luke Kosch: Also, I'm very careful about the food I eat. To me, eating lettuce that has been contaminated with chicken is the same as licking chicken, so any "it's still vegetarian" answers will be completely disregarded. :/
Lionel Tanen: Uefine "unatural". while our body is designed to utilize almost any type of food, our brain is designed to allow us to see that #1 we don't have to eat meat to survive, #2 that meat is not the healthiest food source for mostly sedentary creatures and #3 that killing unecessarily is ethically problematical.Which of these definittions you choose proves only that our brains are also large enough to allow us to ratio! nalize whatever choices we make....Show more

Keven Drumgole: SO, trevor, you eat raw meat then? Without plants to season it? TO answer the post, the human animal is built with equipment to digest and burn plant fuel for energy. The flesh contains poisonous substances for the human body, which , in time, damage the cells and blood and cause a host of diseases....Show more

Elden Bardac! h: I think it's unnatural for humans to be at either extremes. Too much meat and no veggies = get sick. No meat lots of veggies = risk of suffering from anorexia, anemia, etc. What needs to be thought of is a BALANCE of both. More fruits and veggies and less meat. The North American population is eating way too much meat as it is which explains why these vehement vegan groups ("Screw You" certainly made a prime example with his/her vulgarity and hate message) are so strongly opposed to the meat industry then make up these "facts" to support their claims that humans are herbivores, not omnivores. None of which I find fully true nor accurate. You see, none of those who posted "yes" failed to realize what true herbivores/"vegetarians" consider us humans as: Predators. Most, if not all true herbivores see humans as a natural predator, a natural "meat eater," if you will. We also still retain the "hunter" or "predator/prey" instinct and relationship with animals around us. To ! sneak, to stalk prey, to hunt, to chase, etc. We still retain that. Those who live in the cities and resort to "civilized" life, for lack of a better term, may not see that as much, but it's there. No need to add in the "lust for blood and gore" and all that--we get that from just seeing movies--that satiates our need to see such things, even we don't wish to admit it. The fact that we don't salivate at the site of a rabbit or a cow doesn't challenge the above either: sure we don't do it as human beings in a more controlled, urban environment, but in the midst of a survival situation, that's a whole different story. When there are not enough plant matter or no plants around to satiate our hunger, what better than to turn to hunting and trapping methods to get the protein and fat needed to survive? True herbivores tend to have either a multiple-chambered stomach or a large, functional cecum or both. Humans have neither: merely a simple stomach designed for the digestion o! f animal products like meat, and a flimsy, useless appendage called the! "appendix" that does nothing for us in our digestion at all. We can't even digest cellulose--it is only good for us as a means to clean out the poop chute, nothing else. (That's why plant matter we eat tends to go through faster--when food goes through our GI tract at a fast rate, it means it's not hardly worth keeping to digest. Meat and animal products on the other hand...) With meat and dairy products, the myth that it stays in our stomachs and "rots" is a misnomer. Animal products stay longer in our GI tract because it's being digested more fully. There are a lot of nutrients to glean from such products, and in order to get it all it has to take its time from the time of swallowing to the time it comes out our anuses. And as for raw meat, look at the Inuit and Eskimo tribes up north. They still eat meat that's raw or partly cooked and haven't gotten sick or died off. Hardly do they need any plant products to add to the flavour of the meat--wild game meat tends to t! aste better than CAFO-raised meat anyway without the added seasonings. Even people who follow the Raw Food diet eat meat raw, and there hasn't been much heck raised over the fact that raw meat is unhealthy with those diet-followers. Because we've grown accustomed to cooking meat, it's become the norm. Something we've evolved to accept as a part of our diets. Most, though, not everyone. So really, it's more natural to follow an omnivore diet of whatever suits your genetics or blood-type. Some people are best suited to a diet of primarily vegetables and fruits, whereas others are best suited to a diet of mixed fruits, veggies and meat products. Not everyone is the same, and no one should be stupid enough to assume such a thing. Especially all you vegan-touting people out there....Show more
Alexis Reyer: No, it is unnatural for humans to eat meat. We are not designed to eat meat, our biology is that of our herbivore friends. Humans are made to digest plant foods not ! flesh. Peggy Sandefer: I can understand people thinking humans are supposed to eat meat. :) But the unbelievable truth is that humans aren't supposed to eat meat. You see, humans began eating meat as cavemen because of famine. They have big razor sharp daggers-for-teeth in a different style to ours. ours are more like a horses or giraffes (herbivores. We also don't have claws, strong stomach acids, short guts, high speeds or the right bone structure.Humans even have to cook meat or get ill. Even then it's still the top cause of cancer, heart disease, cholesterol, diabetes, and a load more. And yes, we have little canines. There's other herbivores with them too. They can't rip skin. Lolita Deschamp: It is very good to be mostly vegan. But because we were told we can eat many things such as meat as well it is acceptable. We have incisor teeth up front, four canine teeth and then molars in back. We are suited to eat both ways. The only thing is we need to eat meat in very small quantities and get most of our nutrition from plant based foods. The more animal protein you put into your bodies the more acitic your body becomes which I turn is a great breeding ground for bad bacteria, viruses and cancers to thrive and grow. Elden Dedon: Being a vegan means using NO animal products whatsoever. A vegetarian doesn't eat meat (though some vegetarians might eat poultry and/or fish) and usually consume dairy as well (eggs, milk, cheese, cream, etc.) Vegans do not consume meat, poultry, fish, dairy or honey. If you are vegan for compassionate reasons, vegans stay away from wearing animals as well (no leather, no wool, no cashmere, no fur, no silk, etc.) and only buys products that are certified cruelty free and vegan (meaning no animal experiments were done to make the product and no animal by products were used either). Compassionate vegans do not attend circuses or zoo's or any place where animals are used cruelly and inhumanely in any way. Being a vegetarian or vegan is a spiritual and compassionate journey, and you have to be really dedicated to the cause if you want to make it work and live healthy and happy....Show more
Refugio Gastineau! : Vegetarians are people who don't eat anything that came from a dead animal, this includes meat, lard, gelatin, rennet, etc.Vegans don't eat anything that came from an animal, and they try their best not to use anything made with a product that came from a dead animal (this is almost impossible). They don't eat anything a vegetarian wouldn't eat, and they also abstain from eggs, dairy, honey, silk, wool, leather, etc. There are different types of vegetarians.Lactoveggies will use dairy products, and even some will eat cheese, even though it contains rennetOvoveggies will eat eggs.IMO if ovoveggies got eggs from chickens that they knew were kept humanely, then they wouldn't be contributing to animal cruelty. Hilton Paiva: Actually, something as simple as using tongs for meat would suffice.
Catheryn Small: Ideally, ALL cross contamination should be avoid for sanitation purposes. We are not required use tongs for everything because it is assumed that whatever we touch in the bins will be going straight onto the persons sandwich and we won't touch what is left behind. Knives and cutting boards are to be sanitized and gloves should be changed upon request. If these conditions are not being met at your Subway, than I would suggest calling the corporate hot line and recommending the staff be retrained in food safety (1 800 888 4848).
